West Virginia’s Hatfield-McCoy Trail System

Located on the southern portion of the world-class Hatfield-McCoy Trail System, Trailhead Adventures puts you directly in the heart of some of the country’s best off-road riding. Our location sits on the Pocahontas side of the trail system, giving riders access to one of the largest continuous riding areas in the Hatfield-McCoy network.
Pocahontas connects with Indian Ridge, Pinnacle Creek, and Warrior, creating more than 400 miles of connected trails and small towns to explore. The southern trail systems offer everything from scenic, beginner-friendly routes to intermediate terrain and challenging technical trails built for experienced riders and thrill seekers.
With a Hatfield McCoy Trail Permit, riders can also travel on designated ATV-approved roads connecting the trails with ATV-friendly towns throughout the region. Ride into town for fuel, grab lunch, visit local shops, and explore historic mountain communities without loading your machine back onto a trailer.
Hatfield McCoy Trail Permits are available directly through Trailhead Adventures at a discounted outfitter rate of just $20 per person when renting one of our machines, making it easy to get your permit and hit the trails.
Whether it’s your first off-road adventure or you’re coming to chase the toughest trails on the map, hundreds of miles of connected riding and access to surrounding communities make the Hatfield McCoy Trails a destination unlike anywhere else in the country. With Trailhead as your starting point on the Pocahontas side, the adventure begins right outside your door.

Virginia’s Spearhead Trail System

Virginia’s Spearhead Trail System brings a different personality to your off-road vacation. Trailhead Adventures provides direct access to both Original Pocahontas and Laurel Creek, giving you two distinct Virginia riding experiences right from our property.

Original Pocahontas is the more rugged option. Its 94 miles are known for tighter trails, technical terrain, wooded sections, elevation changes, rocks, ponds, and plenty of opportunities to get muddy. The dedicated play area gives riders a place to hit the mud and have some fun before heading deeper into the trail system. With fewer riders on the trails, it’s an excellent choice for those looking for a more challenging backcountry experience.
Laurel Creek changes the pace with wider, more open terrain and a layout that is especially welcoming to beginners and families. The ride is as much about what you discover along the way as the trail itself, with abandoned tunnels, homemade mountain cabins, ponds, scenic overlooks, and views stretching into multiple states.
Both trail systems offer ATV-friendly road riding where permitted, opening up even more of the area to explore. Ride into the historic town of Pocahontas, Virginia, and visit the Pocahontas Exhibition Mine for a 45-minute guided tour through the historic mine. Travel underground and experience the region’s coal mining history firsthand while seeing a massive 13-foot coal seam, one of the tallest in the country.

A Spearhead Trails 3-day permit is only $25 per rider and can be purchased online before your trip, making it easy to arrive ready to ride and experience both trail systems during your stay.

Tighter and technical or open and scenic, you can experience both sides of Spearhead directly from Trailhead Adventures.
